DPNR/DEP Co-Sponsor 2008 Plumbers Workshop
The Department
of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR) today announced that the
Division of Environmental Protection (DEP), Small Business
Environmental Assistance Program will co-sponsor the 2008 Plumbers
Workshop in conjunction with the International Association of
Plumbing and Mechanical Officials and the VI Plumbers Association.
The workshop
will take place on Thursday, February 14, 2008 on St. Thomas at the
Marriot Frenchman’s Reef Hotel and on Friday, February 15, 2008 on
St. Croix at the Caravelle Hotel.
Commissioner
Robert Mathes said, “The goal of the workshop is to provide
information on the 2006 Plumbing Code and information on
environmental requirements for the Plumbing Industry.”
Mathes stated
that the department’s involvement with this workshop is no
coincidence. He said we are in the businesses of protecting
our environment and working with all entities to ensure that they
have knowledge and understanding of the requirements as it relates
to their industry. In this case, we are focusing on the
plumbing industry of the Virgin Islands.
“The Small
Business Environmental Assistance Program plays a vital role in
educating our Business Community,” Commissioner Mathes said.
John Jordan,
Jr. is the principal trainer for the workshop. He has been
IAPMO-certified in the Uniform Plumbing Code since 1995 and is
licensed with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and with
the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners. He teaches for
the Institute of Continuing Education for license renewal of all
Texas state plumbing licenses. Jordan has written multiple
chapters for the ICE textbook and several articles for the American
Society of Engineering magazine Plumbing standards. He teaches
the Uniform Plumbing Code, the Uniform Mechanical Code and the
International Plumbing Code.
“All plumbers
in the Virgin Islands should attend this workshop to take advantage
of the training and information that will be provided,” Commissioner
Mathes said.
