Structural Damage to Sewer Line in Estate Carlton

The Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR) announces that the Division of Environmental Protection (DEP) is investigating reports that a sewage gravity line has sustained structural damage. The line is located in a grassy field east of plot No. 99, in Estate Carlton, on St. Croix. As a result of the damage line, the surrounding ground has collapsed, leaving an open hole exposing the sewage flow within the pipe. Due to the collapse, a strong sewage odor is currently blanketing the area.  The V.I. Waste Management Authority has been notified and is working to repair the damaged line. 

DPNR is advising that children and adults with compromised immune systems should avoid the above mentioned areas especially in the area. Standing or running water in these areas may contain contaminants or pollutants harmful to human health. DPNR will continue to monitor the impacted area.
