Program Overview

The Division of Environmental Protection is pleased to announce the establishment of the USVI Watershed Education Program. The purpose of the Watershed Education Program is to promote environmental stewardship within the US Virgin Islands community, from residents, government, non-profit and private businesses, to educational institutions and others.

A watershed is an area of land that drains into a common waterway such as a stream, lake, estuary, wetland, or ultimately the ocean.

on water-shed education and awareness, the meaning and importance of watersheds in the US Virgin Islands, how they work, how and why they are impaired, and what can be done to improve watersheds throughout the US Virgin Islands.

Watershed Campaign

To kickoff this very important program the Division of Environmental Protection has launched the ”Keep It Clean“ Watershed Campaign. The objective of the campaign is to educate the public about watersheds… primarily what a watershed is and the importance of keeping our watersheds clean to protect our beach water quality, coral reefs and marine habitats around the Virgin Islands.

Special watershed educational programs are being developed for students and teachers in grades 6-12, and others. Programs include classroom and field research projects, hands-on ecological surveys, community service projects, partnerships and other endeavors which help to produce environmentally literate citizens, now and into the future.
