PUBLIC NOTICE
FROM: The Virgin Islands Department of Planning and Natural Resources
TO: All residential and business neighbors located within 1,000 feet of the proposed new or modified source(s) of air pollution listed below.
RE: Permit Application for the following source(s) of air pollution:
One Crematory Retort
Cremation Care, LLC/Davis Funeral Home
Fortress Storage Warehouse
St. Thomas, USVI 00802
The Virgin Islands Department of Planning and Natural Resources (the “DPNR”) office of
Environmental Protection is a local agency that regulates stationary sources of air pollution such
as commercial stationary power generators, industrial sites, and gasoline stations through its Air
Pollution Control Program.
Whenever we receive a permit application for a new or modified source(s) of toxic air contaminants, VI law requires that the public be notified. To comply with this requirement, we are dispensing this Public Notice to all residents and businesses located within 1,000 feet, of the proposed source(s).
This facility is required to issue a Public Notice because a permit application has been filed with the DPNR for the above referenced source of air pollution. A description of the proposed project follows: One propane gas-fired crematory retort, with the secondary chamber operating at > or = to 1800 degrees F = 19.00 cu ft from flame tip, a residence time > or = to one second and an exhaust gas grain loading of less than 0.06 grains per dry standard cubic feet adjusted to 7% O2, that meet the requirement for Best Available Control Technology for toxic air contaminants.
The DPNR has determined that the increase in health risks resulting from toxic air contaminant emissions from the proposed source(s) are within acceptable levels, and that the project will comply with all other applicable air pollution control requirements. Accordingly, the DPNR plans to entertain issuance of a Permit to Operate for the proposed
project.
