The Department of Planning and Natural Resources, Division of Environmental Protection has received an application for a Human Crematory as a Minor Source from:
The Department of Planning and Natural Resources tentatively intends to approve this permit application.
The application is for the construction and operation of one Power Pak II (IE43-PPII) multi-chamber human cremator. The cremator is a multi-chamber design and is fired with LP gas (propane) as an auxiliary fuel. It is designed to be manually loaded in batches. The cremator has a maximum burn rate of 150 lbs/hr of remains. The primary chamber has an Eclipse Therm-jet burner rated at 1.5 MMBtu/hr. The afterburner in the secondary chamber of the unit is an air pollution control device, which combust emissions. During the operation, this unit will emit 0.4212 tons per year of nitrogen oxides, 0.351 tons per year of sulfur oxides, 1.404 tons per year of carbon monoxide, 0.9828 tons per year of particulate matter, and 0.4212 tons per year of hydrocarbons into the atmosphere.
Copies of the application and the draft minor source permit are available for review at the Florence Williams Public Library in Christiansted and the Athalie Petersen Public Library in Frederiksted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands beginning Tuesday, January 17, 2012 between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday except holidays for thirty (30) calendar days.
